Do you remember when the iPhone 6 came out? Remember how much better it was than the iPhone 5? Not long after, the iPhone 7 came out, and all those happy iPhone 6 users became dissatisfied with their current phones and had to upgrade. They thought that somehow their happiness would increase with this new phone.
We do this all the time with things in life. How about that old car you drive? Do you still like it as much as you did when you first got it? How much happier would you be to upgrade to a newer model? How long would that satisfaction last?
You don’t need new things to make you happy. You need to learn to find satisfaction in what you already have. You need to learn to be thankful for the things God has already blessed you with before you can expect to be happy with something else. That happiness will fade just like everything else.
Many people would be incredibly thankful for the thing you have, even if you don’t think what you have is all that great. Why can’t you find that same satisfaction from it? Because you got bored with it? What about that new gadget you get? How long until you’re bored with that?
Some of the happiest people, are the people who learn to be happy with what they have, or where they’re at. They learn to be content in all things. The secret to happiness isn’t a big raise or a new car, it’s being completely satisfied with what you already have in life.
Philippians 4:11 says “not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”
